This story is beautifully told through the innocent mind of Sam, reeling from life and events beyond his control. The language of the story flows smoothly making it extremely enjoyable to read and though provoking in it's own nature.
Wonderful book that keeps you interested with every page. Easy read! Great read for teens or for a quick read on the plane/beach/rainy day, etc.
I TRULY ENJOYED PANCAKES ON THE PORCH. NOT ONLY WERE YOU ABLE TO READ AND COMPREHEND ALL THAT WAS WRITTEN THE WRITER ALLOWED YOU TO SEE AND TO FEEL ALL THAT TRANSPIRED. I WOULD RECOMMEND THE READING OF THIS BOOK TO BOTH THE YOUNG AND OLD. I WILL REMEMBER THE AUTHOR AND WILL READILY PURCHASE MORE OF HIS WRITINGS. THE END OF THE BOOK IS SO PRECIOUS AND REMINDS ME OF HOW GOD WILL GIVE US COMFORT IN ALL SITUATIONS.
Pancakes on Porch avoids the common problem of superfluous passages that plagues so much of young adult fiction these days. There are no sections inserted purely to extend the story or characters who only serve to comment on the obvious.
Most importantly however, the author clearly knows what type of book they are writing. There is not a great deal of dialogue, but the book wouldn't work as well if there was. The story is about Sam's response and growth in an increasingly difficult world. Other people cannot tell Sam nor the reader how Sam is thinking and feeling better than Sam can. Furthermore, the isolated world that Sam lives requires him to behave like an introvert (regardless if he is one or not). Instead of trying to force a sub-optimal story telling method, the author smartly doubles down on the paradigm they have set up.
Beautiful story about a young boy dealing with a tragic loss. The language and diction used fit well in the story, and I found that I was able to feel the emotion through the author's words.
